SAYBL UPDATE 3.0

November 6th,  2025

Once again our small team has not  made the Team Creation deadline. It's not from a lack of ability or desire, it's available time. Expect teams in the next couple of days.  We pushed the coaches clinic to November 10th at a new location that better suits our needs: One Possession.

Updated Schedule:

  • Teams Notified: before Monday, November 10th
  • Coaches Clinic: Monday, November 10th

We sincerely hope that this is the last time we need to move dates.

Regards,
SAYBL Team

SAYBL UPDATE 2.0

October 28th,  2025

Yesterday we posted an updated regarding schedules and creating teams in a record breaking time. Today we circled back and deemed it impossible.

We reviewed our gym availability with fall break looming and it does not match our enthusiasm to start the season.

Updated Schedule:

  • Teams Notified: before Tuesday, November 3rd
  • Coaches Clinic: Thursday, November 6th
  • First Practices Commence: November 13th
  • First Game: Saturday, November 22nd

We sincerely hope that this is the last time we need to move dates.

Regards,
SAYBL Team

SAYBL UPDATE

October 275th,  2025

Next Steps
Thank you to everyone who attended the ID Camp, this information will go a long way in helping us create balanced teams for the 2025/26 season. Time to create 34 teams in record time - expect delivery Tuesday night/Wednesday first thing. This information will include your team, practice time and location.

Team Coaches
If you’re new to SAYBL you will soon understand we sometimes create teams without coaches. If your team does not have a coach there’s an expectation that someone, or someone’s, will step up and fill that role. Co-coaching is a thing. Please let us know ASAP who will be the coach so you can attend the coaches clinic. There’s a link at the bottom of our website if you’d like to sign up. To those of you who've already signed up, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Coaches Clinic
We have moved our Coaches Clinic to Thursday, October 30th November 6th at the new location of WD Cuts. An email will be sent out later today to those who have signed up to volunteer coach or assistant coach. Your coaching bags will be available for pick up at the clinic.

Please read our FAQ page.
We love receiving emails with your questions and we want to provide you answers as quickly as possible. To help speed up the email response time we created an FAQ page on our website. I encourage you all to read the FAQs before reaching out. If you’ve not received an answer from a recently written email please go to our FAQ page, there’s a good chance you’ll find your answer there. If not, we’ll respond ASAP.

First Practices
Practices start November 3rd 13th - more information will be provided when the teams are announced.

First Game - November 22nd
Moved due to gym accessibility. Providing a little more time to develop team chemistry before the first game.

Saturday Games In an attempted to provide everyone with comfortable seating our Gyms this season will be;

  • U11 Division - Holy Family School (HF)
  • U14 Division - Alexandre Taché & *Elmer Gish (AT & Gish)
  • U17 Division - Vincent J Maloney (VJM)

   * - Gish will be substituted when AT is unavailable

Volunteers
Do you love this league? Simply put, we don’t have enough people to run the league. If you’re good at communications, if you have time to help open & close gyms… we’d love to hear from you. We have less people this year than last and last year was not easy. Please help keep this league alive for years to come and send us an email saying you’d like to help volunteer. If you have already please do it again.

Thank you for your patience and continued support.

Sincerely,
SAYBL Team

Thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,
SAYBL Team

Teacher Strike

Spread the word so together we can enjoy a successful 2025/26 basketball season!

Sincerely,
SAYBL Team

Girls Divisions

August 29th, 2025

Over the last 2 season we've been faced with shutting down all girls divisions due to lack of registrations.  Our only way of keeping the 80 girls in the league was to shift the age groups to ensure we had 2 active girls divisions. Not ideal but we had games.

We read and heard your comments regarding the shift and once again we will attempt to hold the divisions to U11, U14 and U17. With your help we can make it happen. Please tell your friends and your friends friends about SAYBL! Have them sign up so we can provide 3 divisions of women's basketball in St.Albert.

Sincerely,
SAYBL Team

NEW BRANDING!

August 28th, 2025

Yes, we have rebranded SAYBL. The new logo is a playful reflection of what our community league is all out…  fun! We will soon have merchandise available, so watch this space for more info.

Sincerely,
SAYBL Team

U17 Girls - Lets Give it a go!

August 28th, 2025

Over the  last 2 seasons of SAYBL we've come up short to form a U17 Girls Division (ages 14 to 16). We will persevere because we care and hope that one day enough  girls will register to form the division.  We require a minimum of 40 girls to register to give the girls an opportunity to play. It's not crazy competitive, it's an opportunity to run around the court and play against your friends. It's mostly fun with a touch of competitiveness. Our coaches are patient and happy to teach you the basics and the rules of the game. If you have any questions feel free to drop us an email: info.saybl@gmail.com
